Ready Tents

The campsite and pods will be re-opening from July 4.  Find out what measures we are taking to keep people safe so that you can enjoy a peaceful break this summer.

We are delighted to be able to partially re-open by opening up the campsite and glamping pods for the summer.  It is most welcome on so many levels, from the personal mental health point of view to the obvious financial one.  We look forward to welcoming guests over the two remaining months of the summer after which we will hunker down, keep busy and do some more jobs around the place and hope the virus doesn’t go wild after this summer so that - fingers crossed - we can make another comeback next spring, hopefully with the pub to boot!

The media headline was that campsites could re-open from 4th July but the devil is in the detail and the detail requires us to do many things to get the campsite Covid-19 safe.  Things will have to operate differently which is what this article is about.

Serving Food and the Pub

One of the effects of Coronavirus is that the pub obviously closed.  Stock perished, staff that were due to start in April never did and unfortunately, we couldn’t furlough them either as they were not already on the payroll.  It makes re-opening the pub a challenge which is why we decided to keep the pub closed until new staff can be recruited with a full season ahead of us in a better business climate for the social nature of a pub.   Now is not that time, even though we know it provides a great service for our holidays it also costs a lot to run so it needs to run well when it does open.

We have been asked if we will be doing takeaways instead and the answer to this is maybe, but we cannot promise it.  If we have just a handful of people here it really is not going work so it is a 'as and when' type of arrangement rather than a promise of doing it.  i.e.  if there is some demand and I have some time to do it then it might just happen but not every night and probably not until we have got going again and found some rhythm.

Pod Accommodation on the Glamp Site

The pods need extensive Covid-19 cleaning protocols to reduce the risk of virus transfer between guest stays.  It takes time and therefore we are asking customers to make sure they do not arrive to check in until after 4pm and to make sure they have vacated by 10am.

The risks associated with laundry cleaning are quite challenging so we feel the best option for dealing with the challenge of turning over the cleaning of accommodation rin good time whilst also mitigating against the high risk to our staff when dealing with people’s dirty laundry is to ask customers to bring their own bedding.  We also feel this gives some peace of mind to our customers that they know they are sleeping in something no one else has handled.

Unfortunately, we are not allowed the use of the communal glampers kitchen so this will be closed off.  To deal with the lack of kitchen and lack of pub facilities and to aid Covid-19 cleaning we will be removing all utensils, crockery and cutlery from the pods and replacing this with an easily moveable cooking box containing the same and a bit more, complete with a gas hob for outside cooking only (don’t kill yourselves with Carbon Monoxide poisoning by using it inside a pod).  Customers can cook and self-cater camping style.  We also have disposable BBQs and wood for campfires with a firepit for sale as usual.

Communal Toilets, Showers and Other Touch Points

The site has two toilet blocks, both with self-contained rooms with their own toilet, shower and wash basin.  This makes the social distancing requirements quite easy to maintain.

The greatest challenge to re-opening campsites has been the contentious issue of communal shower areas where there is a higher risk of transmitting Coronavirus in when water droplets are especially prevalent after someone has just had a shower.  To mitigate this, we will be closing the showers in one of the blocks, therefore it becomes just a toilet and wash basin and much safer without any humidity.  This will be open 24/7 and cleaned regularly during the day.

The other block, nearer the entrance, will be a bookable shower block which will be supervised and operate on a daily pre-booking time slot basis.  This will enable us to keep them clean and ventilated and manage the facility so that we comply with the Covid-19 safety guidance for campsites.  The showers will be bookable in 30 minute slots during the working day (from 8am).  Each family/or pitch booked will have one included 30 minute slot per day where your family can use a shower room either together or one after the other.   Ventilation and cleaning will be required between families so the whole thing will be rather ponderous but regrettably, its unavoidable.  Since it is so labour intensive, we will be charging for additional time slots.  The shower rooms will be closed when we are not around to supervise it and can be booked from the reception after the last shower of the previous day.  If you can make use of your caravan shower then please do so, it will be much safer and a lot less hassle.

Behaviour and Respect for Others

Ultimately keeping everyone (including ourselves) as comfortable, relaxed and safe as possible is the main aim for us so we are re-opening with amended booking conditions so that customers book in the knowledge that this year is a little bit different and that we will be hot on making sure people behave in a responsible way.  We do suggest you read at least the first part of our updated booking terms and conditions before booking.  It will reassure those with a sensible view and hopefully put off those who want to revel at everyone else’s expense.
