About Us
About Us
From a mid life crisis to a pub, you know it makes sense.
Looking back it really started with the idea that we enjoyed being together and normal jobs didn't allow that, so we decided to quit and do something else. Together.
We has a go at renovating houses but that didn't really work so started a camping business in 2006. It was modest idea to create a comfortable packaged camping holiday for the uninitiated camper, kind of what glamping is today but this was before glamping had become a word.
Our First Holidays
We spent a few years scurrying around our old hunting ground of Norfolk and Suffolk, looking for partner campsites to work with that would make a good holiday destination but also allowed us to pitch our ready tent idea. The idea worked well but the business model was hopeless.
With the glamping market developing, our partner campsites saw the opportunity for themselves and we were left struggling to retain suitable campsite hosts. We were being squeezed and needed to adapt, so came up with a camping cycle tour.
Overstrand
In 2008, we arrived at Overstrand on the North Norfolk coast a former youth group site that an established holiday park business had purchased. They couldn't get it to work very well, so approached us.
We saw the potential and agreed a deal to rent the land and see what could be done, turning it into a very successful pop up campsite. Here we really made our own mark, creating a campsite as a camper would want it and finding a home for our ready tents.
Our limitation was the initial agreement which meant we had no long term security unless we could agree something better. We were looking for something for the long term, something we could own.
To The Three Horseshoes
In the wake of the financial crisis that struck in 2008, pubs were closing and the market collapsing (2026 update...NO CHANGE THERE THEN!), creating a opportunity to potentially find a pub with some land for a campsite. Having checked out hundreds of possible candidates, we arrived at the Three Horseshoes in 2012.
A derelict wreck that had been closed for a good few years that had a pretty position we thought we could do something with.
In the years since, we have been slowly and organically evolving. A beautiful journey of investment, learning, slog, family and fun.
Today
Today, we have developed the place we always dreamt about.
The pub part of our business, was a new challenge. The learning curve was not a particularly forgiving one, but having survived it and everything else thus far, the pub has come to mean so much more. I have come to love its sense of history and its community purpose. You make connections and friends through a pub and it is this purpose that makes the pub entity so so important. That alone is my motivation to stretch my mind to find the creative solutions we have here that makes it work.
Our aim now is to enjoy it maturing, by equipping the pub and business to survive and prosper in the future, by harnessing the growing tourism attracted to the hitherto and little known, Lincolnshire Wolds, the area we first discovered in 2012.
This area has now become our forever home. Our children have since followed and married, settled and had children themselves. It is a great place to live and great place to visit, so I recommend getting yourselves to the Three Horseshoes to see what we have to offer.
